So, I decided to move from Jellyfish Reads to here.
As you will have noticed, I hadn’t really posted on Jellyfish Reads in quite a long time. I started Jellyfish Reads in March this year, and I set myself a standard of reading about a dozen books each month for the first few months that I was blogging. A standard which I quickly discovered was not really possible for me to stick to forever. I started to lose motivation. For those of you who don’t know, I study Classics at the University of Oxford, and it’s a lot of work. Writing two 2000-word essays and reading and reviewing three books every week was doable, but it was only doable if I gave up on other parts of my life. My friends complained that they hardly ever saw me anymore.
I took a break from reading and blogging because I wanted more time for other things in my life. I kept trying to get back into blogging, but I found it difficult. Composing posts took longer than they should. I just wanted to talk about books, but book blogging was about more than that. The longer I didn’t update my blog, the guiltier I felt, and the harder it was to go back to it.
But I still wanted to read books and talk about them.
So I’ve given up on Jellyfish Reads. I want to start afresh because it’s going to be different from now on. I’m gonna talk about books, but I might talk about other things as well. Posts will be much more simple. I’m not going to try and be a book blog. It’s just going to be a blog, and I will talk about books. Not as regularly as before. I’m just going to read when I have time and review when I have time. Reviews will probably vary in length a lot as well. I felt that once I’d started writing fairly long reviews, I had to keep writing reviews of the same length, but that wasn’t really feasible.
This blog isn’t really going to be very fancy and pretty. I want to keep it as simple as possible so I can focus on the important things.
My next post after this will be a quick round-up of the books I’ve read in the past few months that I haven’t managed to write a review for on Jellyfish Reads. Then I’ll attempt to start catching up on all the other review copies I’m supposed to have read.
Please also note that I’ve moved on Twitter as well from @jellyfishreads to @afterwritten. (As in, I’ve actually moved accounts instead of just changing my username.) I’m still the same on Goodreads though.

*waves aggressively* THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME WHERE YOU MOVED. I WAS MISSING YOU! And sorry, I didn’t find out sooner. I’ve sort of taken a break (uh, kind of a long one) from book blogging because school has been kicking my butt (I am not one of those people who can get good grades easily– I’m one of those people who struggle for halfway decent grades, it’s so saaaad), so I have been a bit out of the loop. But gosh, I’m so glad I’ll be able to visit your posts again. And yes, it’s good that you started fresh — in the popular phrase read and live (well, it’s popular in my head), the keywords are both ‘read’ and ‘live’ 😛
And I’m reading the Skyscraper Throne series! It’s wonderful and Pen is my favorite, and her friendship with Beth is so touching and wonderful. I look forward to talking about it with you when I’m all done and finished 😀 It may take a while, though… School makes me a slow reader and so I’m like finishing one and a half books a month. The sadness of it all is crushing, let me tell you. Also, I’m a freshman and people somehow still come to the assumption that I’m in middle school when there are only freshmen and above on the campus. I felt that this was somehow relevant.
Oh, and I actually think your blog is very pretty ^_^ I like simple lay-outs! AND IT’S OKAY TO BE TERRIBLE AT BLOGGING. WE CAN BE TERRIBLE TOGETHER. WE SHALL BE THE CLUB OF PAPER BAGS AND JELLYFISH AND BLOGGING TERRIBLENESS.
Also, how is Lies We Tell Ourselves? I’ve had it on my wishlist for quite a while~
Ah, sorry to hear school has been kicking your butt! While I am the sort of person who doesn’t need to work too hard to get good grades (academic stuff is pretty much the only thing I’ve ever been good at my whole life, so I don’t feel too bad admitting this, since I am absolutely shit at music/sports/literally everything else), Oxford is still A TON of hard work and I can totally relate in that respect. I hope you can find the time to blog eventually! I miss your posts. ):
SO GLAD TO HEAR YOU LOVE PEN TOO, SHE IS MY HERO. Honestly, after the third book, I literally went OH MY GOD PEN IS MY FAVOURITE I’LL NEVER LOVE ANYONE ELSE AGAIN. The third book is so so awesome in that respect, I can’t wait for you to read it so we can talk about it. (: But take your time! School is important. You can totally do it! I AM CHEERING YOU ON FROM ALL THE WAY OVER IN HONG KONG/ENGLAND/WHEREVER I HAPPEN TO BE AT ALL TIMES.

Lies We Tell Ourselves is GREAT. I’m over halfway through now, pretty sure this is going to be at least 4 stars, maybe 5, depending on how it works out in the end. It’s really, really emotionally difficult to read about this period of history, but I think it’s an important work and it’s pretty well-written. I’ll probably have a review up in the next couple of days, so you can read more about how I feel about it then. (: I actually won it in a giveaway as well, along with some We Need Diverse Books stickers and bookmark! That was awesome.
